This weekend my friend is putting a baby shower on for me, and I couldn’t be more excited to share this special time with family and friends!

The reason for having a baby shower is for your friends and family to be able to celebrate you and your growing family. They get to see just how real that belly is and help you prepare for baby.

One of the main jobs for soon-to-be-moms is to create a registry where your family and friends can reference to. This helps them get an idea of what you’re looking for and need to be prepared for baby.

Looking back at my registry I had when I was pregnant with my son, I was very uneducated. I didn’t really have anyone to help me create it, and so I referenced to some websites and a few other moms I knew at the time. That was only two years ago that I had made that registry. Since making my new one, there not only have been so many new things for baby and mom that have come out, but I’ve also come across products I wish I knew of before.

Since having my son though, I have a better understanding of the things you actually need and things you can live without. I’ve also come across products though that you could live without but can make life so much easier.

Side Note: Baby stuff can be outrageously expensive. You don’t need to buy the most high end products for your baby either, because at the end of the day the baby doesn’t really care, we do. What you need to do is get things that will make sense for your lifestyle, and make life more easy with a newborn. Nick and I can’t believe how expensive some products are sometimes, but parents will pay! If you can think of a baby product that will be useful to parents, you’re golden for the rest of your life. Nick and I are still brainstorming on our baby product…

Here is a small list of things you can and can’t live without besides your obvious carseat, stroller, diapers, wipes, etc. This is based off what I used and didn’t use last time. Some of the things on the “can live without” list are on my registry because I haven’t gotten the chance to try them out but obviously can live without:

Can’t Live Without:

  1. Rock n’ Play Sleeper
  2. High Chair
  3. Baby Carrier
  4. Baby Bath/Hygiene Kit
  5. Travel Bassinet
  6. Baby Bottles
  7. Swaddles
  8. Activity Mat
  9. Travel Crib/ Pack n’ Play
  10. Hats/Bibs/Baby Gloves
  11. Breastfeeding Pillow
  12. Diaper Bag

Can Live Without:

  1. Diaper Garbage Can
  2. Camera Monitor
  3. Halo Bassinet (Heard this is such a waste of money.)
  4. Bottle Sterilizer
  5. Bottle Warmer
  6. Glider/Rocker
  7. Bouncer (I do want to try this out though.)
  8. Swing (I eventually got a swing but didn’t use it as much as some moms do.)
  9. Dedicated Changing Table (Get a mobilized mat and cover instead!)
  10. Jogging Stoller
  11. Pacifiers?
  12. Baby Wash Cloths

Excited To Try:

  1. DocATot
  2. Bumbo Multi Seat
  3. Newborn Lounger
  4. Formula Pro Formula Dispenser
  5. Owlet Smart Sock (Very Excited About)

I’ve used various resources regarding my registry, especially other mommy friends of mine. I’ve pretty much put things on there that I obsolutely need for baby and I. I’ve also put things on there I never got the chance to try that I think might make life easier.

You’ll notice I didn’t really put clothing on there because I don’t know the gender of the baby and I already have clothes from my son that I’m reusing. Also, you can always buy clothes after baby’s born.

I’m using Babylist to create my registry. I used it last time too and I love it because you can combine so many various items and other registries from completely different stores into one space.
