We are going on vacation in a few days! Whether you’re traveling far or just a few hours away, traveling with a baby can be a bit chaotic at times. I wanted to share a list of a few things I’m bringing to prepare us on our journey with our little one.
Sebastian has been on a plane a few times since he’s been born. When we went to Sweden last summer he was 7 months old and that’s been the longest flight he’s been on (13 hours). He was so young then that it was honestly easy flying with him. We’d bring toys for him to play with and of course a blanket and formula. He slept most of the way there and back. He was so good!
Next week we are heading back to Sweden for a few weeks and I’m not going to lie I’m a little nervous. Mainly because I don’t know how he’s going to act. He’s a totally different baby since the last flight there. Besides getting older, he’s a baby on the move! Our flight is a later one though so I’m hoping he’ll sleep most of the way. Fingers crossed!
Besides catering to some different needs this time around. I’ve put together a list of things I’m bringing on the plane with me to keep Sebastian and the rest of us happy and healthy.
1. Babyganics Alcohol-Free On-The-Go Foaming Hand Sanitizer
This hand sanitizer is not only organic but kills those germs!
2. Munchkin SnackCatch & Sip 2-in-1 Snack Catcher and 2 Piece Spill-Proof Cup
This two-in-one cup will make it possible for me to bring one less thing. I would usually bring his snack cup and sippy separate, but for this trip I’m going to try bringing just this cup!
3. ezpz Happy Mat – One-piece silicone placemat + plate
I’ve had this placemat for a while now and I usually bring it to restaurants. I used it more so when he was younger. This placemat/plate will keep us from having to use the airplane tray as a plate (gross) or take the risk of a flying plate/napkin with food on it. This ensures our son’s food will stay clean, put, and hopefully off the floor.
4. Baby Wipes Travel Pack Unscented 20 ct
Instead of bringing a regular size pack of wipes I use on my son, I’m going to be bringing this smaller, travel pack and then purchase a bigger one once we are in Sweden.
5. Purell Fresh Hand Sanitizing Wipes
Definitely can’t travel without these! Don’t want to catch any sicknesses on the way. Traveling with a sick baby is no fun. These are cheap and great for wiping down anything and everything on the plane.
6. Dr. Brown’s Wide-Neck Options Bottles
This will definitely be traveling with us. This is our son’s favorite sippy cup. He doesn’t drink that much milk or any sort of formula anymore, but if he does have some milk/almondmilk I usually put it in this one before he goes to bed. This has been a constant in his life, so we can’t leave it behind.
7. Burt’s Bees Baby Organic Cotton Footed Sleeper
These aren’t the exact pair of footed Burt’s Bees footed pjs I’m bringing for my son on the plane, but anyways, these footies are always a good idea. It’ll keep him from having to wear shoes/socks, and hopefully keep him warm. I’ll also be bringing an extra pair with me and another pair of clothes to change him into.
8. Books
Sebastian has a few books that he loves reading right now. We’ll probably bring two or three with us.
9. iPad
I never thought I’d say this but Nick and I are using an iPad for this trip. We’ve taken an old one and wiped it clean, updated it, and downloaded movies and shows Sebastian likes to watch. He’s really into Moana, Finding Dory, and Little Baby Bum right now. Those are just a few of the videos we’ve downloaded for him. Hopefully this will help pass the time.
10. Buddy Fruits Blended Fruit and Veggies Squeeze Snack Pouches & Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Pouches
I get these in different flavors at my local supermarket, Publix. They’re great for on-the-go, mess free, and Sebastian really likes them as of recent! This will be great for on the plane!
11. Noise Cancelling Baby Ear Protection Baby Earmuffs
We’ve had these since Sebastian was really little. We’ve mostly used them for sporting events we’d take him to. He doesn’t like wearing them much anymore, but I might still bring them to help him sleep.
12. Baby Travel Pillow and a Blanket
We have something similar to this one! Sebastian loves it and I’ll probably bring it on the plane for him.
13. Infants’ Tylenol
I always try and bring Tylenol when traveling with my son because you just never know if you’re going to need it or not. It’s better to be overly prepared then not prepared at all. Babies change and go through things constantly and I like to have this on me just in case.
14. Toy Cars
My son loves to play with cars so I’ll probably bring two with me he likes a lot.
15. Trunki
This childrens’ suitcase is not only the cutest, but most unique I’ve seen. They can sit on it and scoot their way around the airport or wherever you are. Linked is the exact one Sebastian has. A friend of ours actually gave it to us after their kids outgrew it.
Babies can fly for free up until they’re two years old. With that being said, Sebastian will be sitting on our laps this trip. My sister is coming with us too, so that’ll be helpful since my belly is to big now to have him sit on my lap. Next summer though, we will have to pay for a third seat. This travel bed is very tempting to buy! I may not have it now, but come next year you bet I will. This is such a great invention, why didn’t I think of it!
If you plan on taking your little one somewhere in the near future, I hope as you refer to this list you get some ideas and feel more at ease as you become more prepared.
Sincerely,
YYM
